Where it all begins! RESERVE DEPUTY SHERIFF - ORIENTATION Description After being accepted into the Reserve Organization you will have to complete a mandatory 40 hour assignment in the Martinez Detention Facility (MDF). This assignment will begin to orientate you to both booking procedures and inmate management. The MDF is consistently busy and offers new recruits a hands on learning atmosphere. Your assignment here can take as little as a week or as long as necessary, that decision is up you. Upon successful completion of you assignment at MDF you will be transferred to the: Reserve Transport Unit (RTU). In the RTU you will be paired with an Orientation Officer. During the three months you will spend in the RTU the Orientation Officer will complete with you a comprehensive manual that covers everything from basic vehicle operation to the many specialized aspects of our Sheriff's Department. After your three month tour of duty in the RTU you will be transferred to: Patrol - Reserve Deputy (Level 2) The Patrol assignment is based on staffing levels. In other words you will be sent where needed. These assignments include the following: Delta Station, Bay Station, Valley Station, Muir (FOB) Station. Also you may be assigned to one of the four contract cities Danville Police Department, San Ramon Police Department, Orinda Police Department, Lafayette Police Department or Oakley Police Department. Your Patrol assignment is you main duty. This assignment mandates a minimum sixteen hour per month time devotion. On top of your minimum sixteen requirement you will be expected to attend one monthly meeting held at the field Operation Bureau (FOB) in Martinez. This makes your monthly mandatory time allotment (19+ Hours) Now that you have completed your mandatory monthly assignment we offer many specialized units you can participate in also. Below is a list with related links so you can become more familiar with all of the specialized units: (These units utilize specialized application processes - please ask your orientation officer to explain) Air Squadron - Fly missions that assist the many units of the Sheriff.Air Unit - Be a crew member on the Sheriffs Helicopter S.T.A.R.R.1 Amateur Radio Communications (ARC) Team - Provide extended communications. Cadet (Explorer Post 2406) - Training for a career in law enforcement. Dive Team - Join one of the top Dive/Rescue units in the State. Marine Patrol - Assist boaters and Patrol the Delta Mounted Unit - Do you have a Horse? You could be part of this unit. Patrol - Our Patrol area includes County and Contract Cities Reserve Deputy Sheriffs - Join the ranks! - Help our community! R.T.U. - Reserve Transport Unit Rural Crimes Unit - Offroad Enforcement Search and Rescue Team - Highly trained teams of volunteers.
