RESERVE DEPUTY SHERIFF
THE POSITION
The Contra Costa Sheriff's Office is currently recruiting interested persons for the position of Reserve Deputy Sheriff. The duty assignments include: Corrections, Investigations, Patrol, Special Enforcement, as well as Special Events such as: parades, 10K races, bicycle races, political functions, safety clinics and other community oriented events.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
¨ Valid California
Driver's License and good driving record.
¨ High School Diploma or equivalent.
¨ P.O.S.T. Modular Academy Classes 3 and 2.
¨ United States Citizen, Naturalized Citizen,
or completed Citizenship within the last year.
¨ Written examination, Oral Board review, psychological,
medical and polygraph examinations.
¨ Physical agility test.
The agility test consists of:
1. 165 lb. Dummy Drag -
(drag dummy 32 feet, 10 seconds to complete.
2. Six Foot Wall - (run 20 yards/scale 6 foot wall, run 5 yards.
12 seconds to complete.
3. 500 Yard Run - 1 minute, 45 seconds to complete.
No felony convictions and
the ability to pass a thorough background examination.
Work and home schedule which will permit attendance at all monthly
Reserve meetings and working a
MINIMUM of two shifts per month.
Availability for emergency call outs during night time hours.
DIVE TEAM VOLUNTEER
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
¨ United States Citizen,
Naturalized Citizen, or completed Citizenship within the last year.
¨ At least 21 years of age.
¨ Be able to pass a thorough background investigation, oral
interview, and medical exam.
¨ Must be a certified diver (PADI, NAUI etc.), with minimum
of Rescue certification or equivalent.
¨ Must pass swim test and underwater skill assessment.
¨ Must be available for 24 hour call out.
¨ Must possess all personal SCUBA equipment.
ADDITIONAL DESIRED SKILLS
¨ Training and/or experience
in underwater and swift water Rescue & Recovery techniques.
¨ Experience in limited visibility diving.
¨ Law Enforcement/Public Safety diving background.
Applicants will be interviewed by the Volunteer Coordinator.

2. During hike, basic map reading skills and problem solving
exercises will be required.

¨ Availability for emergency call outs (24 hours a day).
AIR SQUADRON
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
¨ United States Citizen,
Naturalized Citizen, or completed Citizenship within the last year.
¨ At least 21 years of age.
¨ Valid California Drivers License.
¨ Be able to pass a thorough background investigation.
¨ Oral Interview.
¨ Valid Pilots License, with 200 hours as pilot in command.
¨ Airplane or Helicopter.
A.R.C. TEAM
(Amateur Radio Communications)
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
¨ United States Citizen,
Naturalized Citizen, or completed Citizenship within the last year.
¨ At least 21 years of age.
¨ Valid California Drivers License.
¨ Be able to pass a thorough background investigation.
¨ Oral Interview.
¨ Written Examination.
¨ F.C.C. License.
¨ Must posses all personal Radio Equipment.
Cadet
Explorer Post 2406
The Sheriff's Cadet Unit is a volunteer law enforcement explorer post whose primary purpose is to give college, high school and junior high school students a chance to begin training themselves for a career in law enforcement and community service.
Requirements:
¨ An interest in a
career in law enforcement and community service.
¨ Minimum of 14 years of age - maximum of 20 years of age.
¨ Maintain a 2.0 Grade Point Average.
¨ Be in good physical and mental condition.
¨ Have good police and driving records.
¨ Attend two (2) meetings per month.
¨ Participate in no less than 20 hours per month (including
meetings).
Duties:
Contra Costa Sheriff's Cadets perform a variety of duties to assist the Contra Costa Sheriff's Office, it's contract cities, and the County of Contra Costa while being trained for a career in law enforcement and community service. Cadets participate in all areas of the county and in all Divisions of the Sheriff's Office, including Patrol ride alongs, Detention, Communications, Investigations, Administration, Service and Criminalistics Laboratory.
Uniform:
A uniform is required and is provided by the Sheriff's Office.
